Racing in the Powder Puff Derby

*Update* Head over to www.girllovesdiy.com to print out a customized license.

The Boy Scouts compete in the Pinewood Derby every year. Our local Boy Scouts graciously allowed our girls to hold their own Powder Puff Derby on their track. We started with the official Pinewood Derby car kit. Andie and Mark (mainly Mark) worked on the design. Once the design was cut, Andie had to sand, paint, and design her car.  We were as hands-off as possible.

The final car had a coat of glitter modge podge for fanciness.

Racing Day!

The girls had to bring their Powder Puff Drivers license on Racing Day.

*Update* Head over to www.girllovesdiy.com to make your own license

After everyone arrived, they got their racing order and watched the Boy Scouts finish up their races. The designs on all of the girls cars were sparkly, creative, and fun.

Of course Charlotte was there to support her sister, and she had a great time...2 cupcakes worth of a good time.

During the race the girls lined up along the track and waited for their race.  Each car races 4 times, and they rotate to each track.  The best average time out of the four races is the winner.  Although they were not keeping score, and no trophies were given, Andra's car did win her race.

After the race the girls ate cupcakes and got their Powder Puff participation patches.

Here is a video of Andie's car winning one of the races.

My 34th Bowling Birthday Party

We went bowling on the 6th with the girls to celebrate my birthday.  It was a last minute decision, but all of our wonderful friends here in Mannheim showed up!  I was so happy to see everyone.  It was later in the day, and perhaps the girls were hungry, but they were not always cooperative.  We ate pizza, bowled, and had fun getting out of the house on a Thursday evening.

Itty Bitty Bowling shoes are super cute.

I don't really want to smile...
This is as good as you get...

Santa, Gingerbread, and Mom's Fabulous Presents

So this is the last Christmas 2010 post...I think...

Santa

Because Mark has been in command for such a long time, he had the pleasure of hosting his second Christmas Party for his unit.  Once again, Santa made an early appearance there for the kiddos of the families, and he gave each one a present.

Charlotte was so happy to see Santa.  She was concerned she might be on the naughty list, but after he was so nice to her, she felt a little better about the whole thing.

Andie was also happy to see Santa.  She is getting so big though.  I am glad Santa has more lap room this year. Instead of milk and cookies, we left Santa a banana this year because we didn't want to sabotage his healthy habits.

 Gingerbread House

At Ikea there are these cute little house kits...but there are no decorations included, so we had fun picking out what colorful candies would be best.  Charlotte & Andie each got their own side to decorate, and mom helped put the icing on in the pattern they wanted for the rooftop.

Mom's Presents

Mark and I agreed that we would not be getting each other anything for Christmas Day (our stuff was in the mail), but I took the girls on a shopping trip to find these cookies that are Mark's favorite.  They can only be found at REWE here in Germany.  Well, he took the girls out shopping for me one day while I was out, and when I came home there were 4 presents for me under the tree from the girls.  I was feeling bad about only getting him cookies until Christmas morning...:)

As I opened them he made sure to tell me that the girls picked everything out themselves.  The candle was Chalotte's choice.  She liked the color, but Mark made a face at the smell.   Andra picked out Twilight Woods from Bath and Body Works, which actually smells pretty good.  However, she initially picked out an aftershave for me.  I am glad Mark at least steered her toward the section for women.  I also received Bonnie Bell lip gloss in a mocha flavor, and "Sparked" nail color by Wet n Wild.  It was fun to open such unexpected gifts.

Why so many posts about Christmas?

Such a busy month, and with what my friend Claudia calls my "fancy dancy camera", I have quite a few pictures to get through.  Claudia showed me how to quickly turn my pictures into collages with Picnik.  The online program has the ability to achieve many different effects with minimum time invested.  Instead of always having to open Photoshop or Lightroom, I can quickly produce the look I want for the images I put here.  Here is the link in case anyone wants to check it out.

All I want for Christmas is ...

my two front (bottom) teeth.

While trying to rip open a new toy with her teeth, Andie lost her second tooth.  I love the smile she gave me.  The tooth fairy gave her slightly less money this time.  With her money she bought a Barbie Makeup Kit.  I was actually quite impressed with her accuracy while applying the makeup.  I forgot to get a picture...it was funny with the bright blue eyeshadow, shocking pink lips, and missing teeth...but I will try to remember to get one in the future.

Andie as a Fashion Designer

Harumika Designer Dress Form Sets-Harajuku, JapanThis year we tried to get things for Andie that were fun and creative.  She has always been more interested in "making stuff".  There are these really great sets by Harumika that allow you to create outfits by pressing fabric into slots at the back of the dress forms.  She got a few different sets this year, plus I have lots of fabric she can steal a swatch from.  We took a picture of some of her first designs...

The yellow and white dress was Andie's first creation...

"Its short because they are summer clothes!"

Its a Barbie Christmas!

Christmas morning started with opening stockings followed by the obligatory picture beneath the tree.  They were allowed to open their clothes Christmas Eve so they could wear their new PJs to bed.

First let me say that having to make four separate Barbie collages lets me know that the Barbie needs of my girls has been met this year.  Charlotte loves all things Barbie and Pink.  She is very content playing with them, and they have little adventures on a daily basis.

The first thing that the girls saw on Christmas morning was the Barbie Dream House that Mark and I had to assemble into the wee hours of the night.  Needless to say it was a big hit.  Of course Barbie needs transportation to and from her dream house so...

Grandma & Grandpa Reed supplied Barbie with a Barbie and The Three Musketeers Magical Balloon Carriage, Santa brought Barbie a Barbie Shower and Show Horse, and Mom and Dad gave Barbie a cool Barbie Glam Convertible.  When she opened the Balloon Carriage she said. "This is gonna be so rad!"  In case that is not enough for Barbie, a fourth mode of transport is...

a Barbie Vespa Doll & Vehicle w Barbie Doll & Scooter.   The funny thing about this set is that the doll has an exaggerated bend in her middle in order for her to sit properly on her Vespa.  Charlotte kept walking the doll around in her bent state saying, "Ahhh...I am an old lady doll..."

Andie also had a mini Barbie Christmas.  Thanks to Grandma & Grandpa Reed, she finally got the Barbie Loves Beauty Styling Head.  Her first comment was "This is so fancy I want to scream".  Then she followed with "She is amazing, can I keep her?"

Secret Santa, Christmas Crafts, & New Furniture

Christmas has finally come to a close and the new year has started, and Andie is back in school... I am going to try and catch up on all of the past events that have been happening over the last couple weeks.

We did a Secret Santa with 3 of our closest neighbors.  Between the 4 families we have 7 kiddos ages 2-6.  For three days we "secretly" exchanged small gifts in each others mailboxes, and on the 4th day (Christmas Eve) everyone came to our place for the party.  I made this little note, and Claudia attached it to reindeer headbands and delivered it to each of the kiddos.  The idea was to wear the ears when coming to the craft party and gift exchange. Andie was a trooper...Charlotte was not as excited about the ears...

During the day of the party, we were able to keep their attention long enough to complete two ornaments (one tree and one gingerbread man) and make some reindeer food (oatmeal & glitter).  We did sprinkle the food outside our front door before going to bed.

Because there was Christmas music playing, Andie had to dance...and "N" didn't seam to mind.

Our new furniture arrived the day before, so we had plenty of room for all to sit and craft.  The only thing is that glitter got into the table and chairs.  I assured Mark that it would eventually go away...perhaps...:) Having and Art teacher for a wife kind of implies finding glitter and glue in odd places...

We love our new furniture, and it makes the room feel so warm. We notice many drafts in our house and are thankful we don't have to pay to heat it.  The housing was built in the 40's.  Considering its age, its holding up pretty well.
